The Man Behind the fans
Ben’s journey began in 2003 and has a backstory like no other. He has defied all odds and is living proof that no matter how tough life might be, nothing can stand in his way.
Where It All Began
The Beginning
I was born when my mom was six months pregnant and I weighed 1 lb, 12 oz. I stayed in the hospital for 7 months so my lungs could get stronger. In that time, I had 4 surgeries, was on a ventilator for six months and finally got to come home on oxygen. I received my first Diddley stuffie when I was in the hospital. She was the same size as me!
2003
When I was 11 months old, I was diagnosed with profound to severe hearing loss in both ears. Because I was born so early, my eyesight was also affected and I’ve had many eye surgeries since then.

When I was laying on my parents’ bed when I was 1 I saw my first ceiling fan, little did I know 21 years later the love I had only continued. I’ve loved ceiling fans for as long as I can remember. Ceiling fans and lights always fascinated me.

The Collection
I started collecting fans when I was 10. It started with asking for one for my birthday, and has grown since then. I have purchased fans, recycled fans, and been given fans over the years. My collection continues to grow.

The Foundation: Meet Ben’s Family
Every milestone in Ben’s life was driven by the love and support of those who matter most. Here are the people behind the passion.
I’ve always had a really supportive family, even in regards to ceiling fans. I have family members even in other states who collect ceiling fans for me and help me to grow my collection. My parents have cleared out half of their garage so that I can have my collection at my fingertips. I have a workbench and an outlet to test the fans as I work on them to ensure they function. My parents have even taken me on two Fanimation group trips to Illinois, where I got to tour the Fanimation factory and meet up and trade with other fan enthusiasts. My siblings, (Jayden, Mitchell and Millie) also support my fan excitement by taking pictures of fans they see and sending them to me, and sometimes they even pick up fans they see in the community for me.
My extended family also help me with my ceiling fan collection. My Grandma, Papa, Auntie Lisa, and Uncle Westen live in California and help me collect fans and hand out business cards so that businesses can donate their fans to me if they are remodeling. The rest of my family is in Michigan. My Grandma, Grandpa, Auntie, Uncle Tony, Aunt Sarah, and cousins have also helped me to collect fans from people in Michigan that I keep at my Auntie’s house so I can work on them when I visit her.
I also have amazing friends who have helped my love of fans. Ella has been my best friend since elementary school. She has always embraced who I am and encourages me to be my best self. Kyel is a good friend who takes me out in the community and helps me explore local thrift stores to see if I can find any good fans. Doug is my friend who helped me get through high school, and is now a friend in my life who sends me pictures and videos whenever he sees fans.
